In 1997 Creative Artist Grant from the Arts Foundation of Michigan allowed John to support environmental stewardship with his music. He composed the Watershed Suite, which teaches the concept of a watershed and the importance of good stewardship of our waters. Through the support of MichCon Foundation, Grand Traverse Community Foundation, Michigan Council on Arts and Cultural Affairs, and Grand Traverse Imtermaediate School District Math Scienc Tech Center, it has been performed for more more than 4000 elementary school students during the past 3 school years in a special concert program designed with the interests and attention span of students in mind. It is 50 minutes in length.

The Watersed Suite Tooklkit curriculum materials were created By Jon Becker, John Wunsch, Glenn Wolff, and Bill Queen, former Education Director of the Grand Traverse Bay Watershed Initiative and corrdinator of its student water quality program WaterWatch.
